Our Beliefs

The Bible

We believe that the Bible is the word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit of God, points us to Jesus, and provides an unfailing, authoritative guide for our lives. (2 Tim. 3:15-17, 2 Pet. 1:21, Heb. 4:12).

We believe that there is only one true God, who has revealed himself as the Creator of all things, and that He exists eternally. In the essential unity of God, there is a distinction of persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The Trinity is a mystery of one God who eternally subsists in three persons. (Deuteronomy 6:4, Isaiah 43:10,11, Matthew 28:19, Luke 3:22).

God has always existed. He is great and holy, all-powerful, all-knowing, ever-present, unchanging, completely worthy of our trust, and above all. It is in Him that we live, move, and exist. He is our loving father, compassionate,  faithful to His people and promises. (Exodus 3:14 Numbers 23:19 Leviticus 11:44-45; 19:2 Psalm 11:4-6 Malachi 3:6 John 3:16; 4:24; 5:26; 14:1 Acts 17:28 Romans 3:3-4)

Jesus Christ is 100% God and at the same time, 100% human. He is the only and beloved son of the Father. He is God’s perfect plan for redemption, to restore our broken relationship with the father. He existed since the beginning. He came to earth as a baby, poor and simple, became a man, lived a perfect life without sin. He gave his life becoming the perfect sacrifice for our sins paying the price once and for all for our salvation. He defeated death and rose again so that we can have life. He will come back again but this time not as a poor baby, but as a King of Kings, Lord of Lords to take His bride, the church with Him. (Isaiah 7:14; 53 Matthew 1:18-23; 3:17; 8:29; 14:33; 16:16; 28:5-6 Luke 22:70; 24:46-47 John 1:1, 14; 10:30; 11:25-27; 17:1-5 Acts 1:9; 2:22-24; 7:55-56 Romans 1:3-4; 3:23-26; 8:1-3; 10:4 1 Corinthians 8:6 2 Corinthians 5:19-21 Gal 4:4-5 Philippians 2:5-11 Colossians 1:15; 2:9 1 Timothy 2:5-6; 3:16, Revelation 1:7, Matthew 24:36, Revelation 19:7, 11-19)

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the trinity. He is a person and existed since the beginning. The Holy Spirit assures us of our relationship with Christ sealing us when we accept His sacrifice. He guides believers into all truth and exalts Christ. He convicts people of their sin, God’s righteousness, and the coming judgment. He comforts us, gives us spiritual gifts, and makes us more like Christ. (Genesis 1:2, Psalm 51:11, 139:7, Isaiah 61:1-3, Joel 2:28-32, Mark 1:10, Luke 1:35, 4:1, 11:13, 12:12, John 15:26, 16:7-14, Acts 1:8, 2:1-4, 13:2, Romans 8:9-11, 14-16, 26-27, 1 Corinthians 3:16, 2 Corinthians 1:22, 5:5, Ephesians 1:13-14, 4:30, 2 Peter 1:2, Revelation 22:17)

We believe that man was created by God according to His likeness and in a state of innocence. But as a result of disobedience, man acquired a sinful nature and was subject to eternal condemnation. His only source of redemption and hope of eternal life is in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on Calvary’s cross and his resurrection from the dead. (Genesis 1:26,27, Genesis 2:17, Genesis 3:6, Romans 5:12-19).

We testify to a personal salvation experience by faith in Jesus. (Romans 10:9-10), and repentance of our sins (Proverbs 28:13, Acts 3:19, Acts 2:38) It’s our desire to grow toward Christian maturity (2 Pet. 3:18, Eph. 4:12-16) and to share our experience with others (Mal. 3:16, Acts 1:8, 4:18-20, 1 Pet. 3:15).

The ordinances of the Church

Baptism

We testify to what has occurred in our lives by obeying and following the Lord in believers’ baptism as an outward sign of inward cleansing. The Scriptures mandate the ordinance of baptism by immersion. All who repent and believe in Christ as Savior and Lord must be baptized. Thus, they declare to the world that they have died with Christ and that they, too, have risen with Him to walk in new life.  (Matthew 28:19-20, Mark 16:16, Acts 10:47,48, Acts 2:38, Rom. 6:1-4, 1 Pet. 3:21).

The Lord’s Supper, which consists of the elements – bread and the fruit of the vine – is the symbol that expresses our participation in the divine nature of our Lord Jesus Christ (2 Peter 1:4), a remembrance of his suffering, death, and resurrection (1 Corinthians 11:26), and the fellowship of His church until His return (1 Corinthians 11:26). We will affirm this covenant to one another at this service. (Luke 22:19-20, Matt. 26:26-29).

All believers have the right and should desire and ardently seek the promise of the Father, the baptism in the Holy Spirit, and fire, according to the mandate of our Lord Jesus Christ. This was everyone’s everyday experience in the early Christian church. With it comes the endowment of power for Christian life and service, the bestowal of gifts, and their uses in the work of the ministry. (Luke 24:49, Acts 1: 4, Acts 1: 8, 1 Corinthians 12: 1-31). This experience is different and comes after the experience of the new birth. (Acts 8: 12-17, Acts 10: 44-46, Acts 11: 14-16, Acts 15: 7-9). With the baptism in the Holy Spirit come experiences such as:

  • A fullness overflowing with the Spirit of God (John 7: 37-39, Acts 4: 8).
  • A more profound reverence for God (Acts 2:43, Hebrews 12:28)
  • An intensified consecration to God and dedication to his work (Acts 2:42).
  • A more active love for Christ, for His Word, and the lost, (Mark 16:20)

Living in Holiness

We commit to having...

a faithful and meaningful devotional life of Bible reading and prayer. (Psalms 19:14, Luke 18:1, Matt. 6:6, 1 Pet. 2:2). Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we try to live a lifestyle that follows the example of Jesus, based on love, peace, and non-resistance. (Matt. 5, 6 & 7). We seek the Holy Spirit guidance and help to be free from the bondage of harmful habits such as alcoholism, drug abuse (illegal or prescription), smoking, abusive language, abusive conduct, swearing, laziness, immodest dress, sexual perversion, pornography, or anything that would bring disgrace to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and his church. We are committed to living a life in purity, peace, and holiness, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord. (Prov. 23:21, Eph. 5:18, 1 Cor. 6:19-20, 1 Cor. 3:16-17, Eph. 5:4, Jam. 3:10, 5:12, 2 Thess. 3:10, Hebrews 12:14).

Marriage

We affirm and believe...

That marriage is a holy estate of one man to one woman for life, and all shall give that marriage and family ties priority. (Matt. 19:4-6). That Husbands and wives shall strive to live together in harmony. Husbands shall commit themselves to the mandate of Eph. 5:25 and 1 Pet. 3:7 to love their wives as Christ loves the church and gave his life for her. And wives shall show respect to their husbands as in Eph. 5:22 and 1 Tim. 2:8-10. It is the husband’s responsibility to be the spiritual leader in the home. Couples living together without being married can attend church but shall not be considered for membership until they solve their situation and get married. Those doing so after becoming members are subject to the church’s discipline. (Heb. 13:4).

Local Church

The Church is...

A local community of baptized believers unified through faith in Jesus Christ. It is committed to the teachings of Christ and obeying all of His commands, and it seeks to bring the Gospel to the world. The Church works together in love and oneness as a body. The Church’s ultimate purpose is to glorify Jesus Christ and the expansion of His Kingdom by making disciples. (Matthew 16:18-19; 18:15-20 Acts 2:41-47; 5:11-14; 13:1-3; 14:23; 16:5; 20:28 1 Corinthians 7:17; 9:13-14; 12 Ephesians 1:22-23; 2:19-22; 3:10-12; 5:22-32 Colossians 1:18; 3:15 1 Timothy 4:14 1 Peter 5:1-4 Revelation 21:2-3) We are committed to attending our services regularly, becoming actively involved, discovering and using our spiritual gifts, and promoting the vision and mission of the church. (Heb. 10:24-25, Rom. 12:4-8). As members of this local body, we commit to the giving and receiving counsel, praying for one another, caring, and sharing in times of sickness and distress. (Phil. 2:1-4, Jam. 5:16, John 13:34-35).

Tithes and Offerings

We commit to...

Trying to give the Lord’s tithe and, as God leads, to give sacrificial offerings. It’s a way to give back to God from all the resources he has given to us. We show humbleness and dependency on God when we give. (1 Cor. 16:2, 2 Cor. 9:7, Prov. 3:9, Mal 26:26-29).

Our Core values

As part of the Koinonia Fellowship of Churches we adopt their core values which are the following:

Christ-Centered Church

The Basis of our unity is the Lord Jesus Christ and the Kingdom of God as defined in Scripture. We will maintain our unity around a strong Christ-centered focus and common Kingdom values. We will attempt to address relevant issues of our day without becoming issues-oriented.

Anointed kingdom ministry flows through leaders and ministries empowered by the Holy Spirit. We will faithfully teach the truth of being baptized in the Holy Spirit to each generation. We will embrace the fruit, gifts, and fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit. We will by the grace of God walk in balance, attempting to avoid extremism and empty tradition.

God places the mantle of primary leadership on the senior pastor and raises up a team of elders to discern and lead with him in the local church. We will develop strong Senior Pastors and Elder Teams based on a New Testament theocratic style of church government. We will guard against dictatorial styles that oppress and also democratic styles that undermine prophetic leadership.

We see small groups as the primary means for pastoral care. We will provide pastoral care, discipleship, and avenues of outreach through small groups. We will seek to avoid ingrown churches and small groups with no vision for outreach.

We believe every Christian needs to be equipped for kingdom ministry. We will encourage the priesthood of all believers wherein every Christian is considered a minister with spiritual gifts. We will seek to avoid the concept that ministry is done best by professional leaders.

Prophetic worship flowing out of the present move of God propels the church into God’s generational purpose and anointing. We will promote worship that focuses on Jesus, the character of God, and reflects God’s present move in our midst. We embrace hymns of faith as well as contemporary songs. We will guard against a spirit of performance in our worship.

A common vision and commitment to a set of values enable us to build the kingdom effectively. We will promote a guide for Bylaws and church government and a statement of faith that unites us on our mission and vision. We allow for variation and flexibility consistent with our basic vision and values. We will seek to avoid complicated structures and conflicting visions.

Committed fellowship and support of pastors and churches are vital to the success and growth of the Fellowship. We will commit ourselves to fellowship meetings. We will provide apostolic oversight for vision, personal growth, accountability, and protection. We will seek to avoid developing isolated and independent leaders and churches.

Absolute faith and trust in the inspiration of Scripture are basic to the gospel of the kingdom and Spirit-filled ministry. We will unite together around a faith-filled approach to the inspiration of the entire Scripture. We will strive to avoid both a legalistic and a higher criticism approach to Scripture.

God is calling us to prepare the next generation and unite with them in fulfilling His purpose in these last days. We will promote ministry-based youth groups that equip young people to move in the power and vision of the Holy Spirit. We will seek to avoid models of youth ministry that put their primary emphasis on entertainment.

God has called us to be evangelistic, both in our local communities and in foreign missions. We will affiliate with other fellowships and encourage our churches to participate in regional efforts to reach the harvest. We will keep evangelism a priority in our churches and seek to work together with other groups to fulfill the great commission. We will strive not to become ingrown and exclusive in our ministries.

Reproducing and training leaders is vital to the growth of God’s kingdom. We will provide leadership training opportunities within our fellowship of churches to raise up and place leaders in our fellowship. We will avoid calling leaders into ministry who are ill-equipped in Scripture and ministry skills.

The Fellowship will grow through church planting. We will have a sponsoring church for each church plant. Church planters must be willing to work under the guidelines of the fellowship. We will avoid having churches become financially dependent on the fellowship finances.

God has called us to a ministry of healing broken and hurting people within the body of Christ. We will promote an atmosphere of acceptance and embrace the gentle ministry of the Holy Spirit. We will avoid the extreme intolerance and the extreme of no standards. We will prevent hyper-spirituality and sensationalism but embrace humility and genuineness.
